Plan a Romantic Escape (or Stopover)

2-Day Getaway

In Sweetwater County, our rugged yet beautiful landscapes and our pioneering roots inspire awe, and some say a sense of romance. Whether you’re looking for a romantic getaway with a spirit of adventure or a memorable stop on a road trip with your sweetheart, we’ve got ideas for you. Here are our recommendations for how to plan a romantic getaway or stopover in Sweetwater County:

First Night: Arrival

For couples looking to stay in Sweetwater County, consider the Honeymoon Suite at the Holiday Inn or the Hampton Inn & Suites in Green River, a room at the Best Western Outlaw Inn in Rock Springs or one of the hot tub rooms at the Hampton Inn Rock Springs. Check out our full list of hotels to find the perfect place for you. They all make perfect bases for a romantic getaway or road trip.

After checking in and relaxing in your room, explore Rock Springs’ historic downtown and view the murals or take in Green River’s beautiful, rugged views. Then enjoy a romantic dinner at Eve's in Rock Springs. Its enchanting atmosphere and seasonal menus will set the tone for your stay.

Morning: Wildlife

Surprise your sweetheart by having flowers delivered to your hotel from A Touch of Class Floral in Rock Springs or Harts & Flowers in Green River. Then stop by Penny’s Diner for a hearty breakfast. The diner’s 50s style will bring you back to high school, even if you graduated much more recently.

Next set your sights on Seedskadee National Wildlife Refuge for an adventure-filled morning together. You can explore this 26,000-acre paradise on foot or in a car, but either way, opportunities for birding and wildlife watching abound, especially in the wintertime! And while you’re at it, keep an eye open for crossings of the Oregon Trail, Mormon Trail, California Trail and Pony Express Route.

Afternoon and Evening: Scenic Drive

Back in Green River, stop in at the Hitching Post for lunch. Then add some unbridled beauty to the morning’s wildlife theme on a scenic drive around Southwest Wyoming. The uniquely beautiful landscape is unlike any other, and it’s best witnessed with inspiring scenic drive through Flaming Gorge Country, Pilot Butte Wild Horse Loop or a historic byway.

Return to Rock Springs and have dinner at Sapporo Japanese Steakhouse, where watching the chefs work the hibachi and prepare sushi is as entertaining as the food is delicious. Or check out some of our top happy hours in Sweetwater County.

Morning: Flaming Gorge Country

On your second day, sleep in and then have brunch at the Hitching Post in Green River and fuel up for the day’s main attraction: Flaming Gorge Country. Centered around breathtaking Lake Flaming Gorge, the area has plenty of fun activities for couples, including everything from boating and fishing to mountain biking, ATVing and hiking, so you're sure to find anything to suit your fancy!

Afternoon: Western History

If you have extra time before heading home or continuing on your way, surprise your partner with some other classic Sweetwater activities like the going to a rodeo, exploring historic Pioneer Trails, checking out some motor sports or hiking to the White Mountain Petroglyphs. But if you simply have to go, these will give you the perfect excuse to visit Sweetwater County again soon.
